What is Vision Insurance?

Hey guys it’s Alex, I’m an insurance broker and today I’ll be telling you about what is vision insurance?

Vision insurance is a type of insurance you can get if you want to get your eyes checked in terms of seeing how well you can see and depending on your vision get fitted for a pair of glasses or for contacts.

So typically what I see with a vision plan is it will provide a benefit for where it either pays for 100% of your vision exam to measure how your eyesight is or you might have a copay $10 or $20 for it.

In addition to that, the plan may give you anywhere from $120 up to $200 of a credit towards buying a new pair of glasses or a new pair of contacts as needed. Sometimes you will encounter a vision insurance that is bundled together with dental and hearing as well through what are called dental, vision and hearing plans. Those can sometimes can be a better value because the cost of each part of the coverage is less than if you were to purchase it separately.
